MATERIALS TO BRING EVERYDAY:
GRADING POLICY:
For each 9 week grading period:
· Classwork & homework – 33%
· Labs & notebook – 33%
· Assessments (tests & quizzes) – 34%
HOMEWORK:
"Practice makes Perfect!"
At least once a week homework will be assigned as practice. Homework is due the next day your class meets.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
In addition to grades, students must attend class at least 90% of the days the class is offered per semester. Students may have up to 8 absences in the Fall. Failure to attend class may result in loss of credit.
Remember - the new Texas policy says ALL absences count!! This includes athletics, trips to nurse, doctor visits, school functions, etc....
COMMUNICATION DEVICES:
Any electric devices including cell phones, IPODS, mp3 players, or other devices are NOT permitted during instructional time. The use of technology (i.e. cell phones and laptops) are a privilege and NOT a right.
Cell phones are not required nor permitted during labs, note taking, and guided practice. These are specific instructional times when cell phones are not permitted and should be out of sight.
Students insisting on using phones during these times are subject to being confiscated. Failure to turn over such device will result in a ISS (in school suspension.) Parents may obtain the release of the device for a $15 fee from administration.
MAKE-UP WORK & LATE WORK
It is the student’s responsibility to request make-up work. Failure to request and turn in make-up work will result in a grade of zero. A minimum of 1 day of make-up time will be allowed for each day absent.
If a lab is missed, the student must come in after school to make it up within that week.
Class work not completed in class may be taken home to be finished, but is due the following day class resumes.
For each class day an assignment is late, 10 points will be deducted from the earned grade.
Full credit will not be given for late work!
CLASS CONDUCT:
· Come to class on time, prepared, and ready to work.
· Take care of the materials and clean up after yourself.
· Be kind to one another and help each other.
· Use your time wisely and do your own work.
· Follow directions the first time they are given.
· Follow school and district rules ( i.e. dress code, cell phone policy)
LABORATORY SAFETY:
The Chapin science department feels that you should be informed regarding the school's effort to create and maintain a safe science classroom/laboratory environment. Students are required to have a Safety Contract signed before engaging in any laboratory work. The contract will be kept on file in the classroom. Please encourage your son/daughter to follow the safety rules in class. We feel that the lab experiences are critical to learning science. We want those experiences to be safe for everyone!
Please email me with any concerns.
